OUR VILLAGE
LUHALAHTI
Is in the middle of Finland, near the big city Tampere. Here is our
school on a high hill. There are 31 pupils now (2001). We have got
an ice hockey ring, so we can skate and play ice hockey in winter.
We belong to different clubs: music club, scouting, orienteering
club, 4h-club and firebrigade club. There is a shop, a bank, a
service station, a barber and a church in our village. There are a
lot of farmhouses and animals. There are many nice happenings too.
The scenery is beautiful: lakes, rivers, hills, forest and fields.
Come and see our village!

NEW INFORMATION ABOUT OUR SCHOOL:
At the moment (term 2000 - 2001) we have 20 pupils on classes 3 to
6. Rolf Björkman is their teacher. Outi Borgenström-Anjala is
teaching the smaller pupils on classes 0 to 2, 11 together. Anja Köntti
is the English teacher, she also teaches German to classes 5 and 6.
Kaija Luojus visits us once a week to help those pupils who have
some difficulties in articulation for instance. Maire Kulmala is
working in the kitchen and thanks to her, we get really good food
every school day. Maire also keeps all places tidy together with
Vuokko Vähätalo, who takes care of the scool yard, too.
In our school we try to teach all the basic things as well as
possible, so that our pupils manage well further in the future. We
concentrate on three special things, the so called "Luhalahti
waves": nature, fysical education and creativity, to which we
have good possibilities here in the counryside.
Since 1997 we have been in contact with an estonian school, Luua
primary school in Palamune, Jögeva. Almost all our pupils have
estonian penfriends and last spring our friends from luua even
visited us here in Luhalahti.
